Sen. Rubio Assessing Rebuilding Efforts In Haiti

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - U.S. Senator Marco Rubio hopped a flight to Haiti early Monday morning.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio is meeting with the government leaders to review U.S.-backed efforts to help the Caribbean country rebuild two years after a devastating earthquake.

Rubio was slated to meet with Haiti's president and prime minister, private sector leaders and nonprofit organizations working there to help assess the state of the country.

This will be a quick trip - he's scheduled to return Monday night to Miami.

Last Thursday was the second anniversary of the catastrophic quake that killed 316,000 Haitians and displaced 1.5 million people in and around the capital, Port-au-Prince.

More than half a million people are still living in temporary camps amid a cholera epidemic.
