MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – If you hope Powerball will make you rich, you’ll have to pony up more to take a chance.
The price of a Powerball ticket has now double to two dollars and the wizards behind the game claim it will be worth it because the odds of winning will go down.
Powerball officials also said that the starting jackpot will rise to $40 million and the amount for matching all five numbers but not the Powerball will jump from $200,000 to $1 million. Other changes include jackpots which will increase by a minimum of $10 million with each roll and the Powerball only price will increase from $3 to $4.
Also the number of red Powerball numbers is being reduced by four. So, players will select five white ball numbers from a field of 59 and one red Powerball number from a field of 35.
Odds of winning the jackpot will improve from 1 in 195.2 million to 1 in 175.2 million and the overall odds of winning will improve from 1 in 35 to 1 in 32.
