Marlins May Target Cespedes

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Marlins have worked hard during the offseason to shore up the pitching staff and the infield, but they are in wait-and-see mode as they look at adding a big-name centerfielder.

Former Cuban sensation, Yoenis Cespedes, will become a free agent as soon as he establishes residency in the Dominican Republic. Cespedes became a YouTube sensation after videos showing his workouts were published late last year.

Cespedes is a power-hitting centerfielder, but depending on his skill-set in training camp he may have to spend a little time in the minor leagues before being brought up to the majors.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Marlins and other squads will have to submit sealed bids to Cespedes' agent, Adam Katz, through Major League baseball.

The Sun-Sentinel reported that Cespedes may be looking for a 6-8 year contract for up to $8 million per year, which could push the total cost to $65 million. That could be too pricey for the Marlins to consider signing the Cuban star.
