SunPass To Replace C Pass On Causeways

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – South Florida's C Pass, which is used to pay to travel over the Rickenbacker and Venetian Causeways, will be replaced this year by SunPass.

According to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald, the Rickenbacker Causeway will transition to SunPass in June or July followed by the Venetian Causeway in the fall, possibly around October.

Residents of the Venetian islands currently pay $24 a year for their C Pass transponders, non-residents pay $90 a year. Without a transponder, it costs $1.50 every time a car crosses the toll booth on the west end of Biscayne Island.

After the transition, the county will continue to maintain one toll booth lane east and west for drivers paying cash, but the SunPass devices will work on all lanes.
