Tri-Rail Trains Running Again After Deadly Crash

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Tri-Rail trains are once again running in Broward after a deadly collision early Monday morning which brought the lines to a halt.

According to rail line officials, a train struck and killed a man between Sunrise Boulevard and NW 6th Street in Ft. Lauderdale just after 7 a.m.

Ft. Lauderdale police spokeswoman Detective Deanna Garcia said it appears to be an accident because the man was clearly seen trying to cross the tracks from east to west.

"Apparently they thought he could make it across," said Garcia.  "It appeared he thought he could make it across."

The man, however, was not fast enough to beat a southbound train.

"He was braking far before the incident location," said Garica.  "But he didn't have enough time to come to a complete stop."

Chopper4 over the scene spotted yellow tape up along the tracks where the person was hit, a yellow tarp covering a body in the nearby bushes.

Investigators have not released the man's name or speculated as to why he was crossing the tracks.
