Search Mounted For Rip Current Victim

FT. PIERCE (CBSMiami) - The Coast Guard is searching by sea and air for a person who went swimming in the Atlantic off the coast near Ft. Pierce Sunday and disappeared.

The Coast Guard believed the swimmer,  26-year-old Surendra Sri Thakur, may have been caught by a rip current.

Sri Thakur and a cousin were swimming in the Avalon State Park area in Fort Pierce when rough surf and a rip current separated them.

Sri Thakur's cousin was unharmed, and brought ashore on a Good Samaritan's surfboard.

The Coast Guard says Sri Thakur was last seen struggling to stay afloat. He was not wearing a life jacket.
