Report: FIU Working To Keep Cristobal

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Just days after Florida International University head coach Mario Cristobal appeared to be ready to pursue the head coaching job with the Pitt Panthers, it now appears Cristobal is sticking around in South Florida.

Cristobal's FIU Panthers are coming off their most successful season in school history and second-straight bowl invitation. Plus, the Panthers return 19 of 22 starters from this year's team.

According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, aggressive negotiations are ongoing with FIU to give Cristobal a second contract extension and to ensure other improvements to the football facilities on the campus.

Cristobal is under contract with the school through 2016 as of Thursday.

FIU will have to replace the best player it's ever had, T.Y.Hilton and quarterback Wesley Carroll, but the rest of the key offensive starters return, along with every defensive player.
