Post Office's Busiest Day Of The Year For Christmas Cards

MIAMI (CBS4) - If you finished your Christmas shopping over the weekend and planned to get your holiday cards in the mail today, join the crowd.

The U.S. Post Office said Monday was their busiest day of the year for people sending packages and Tuesday, Dec. 20th, will be the busiest day for people sending cards because it's the last day they will arrive on time using first class postage.

The Postal Service said they expect to process about 800 million packages, cards and letters on Tuesday, 40 percent more than the average daily volume.

If you wait until Wednesday you will need to ship gifts using Priority Mail. Those who wait until the very last-minute (Thursday) will need to use Express Mail to make sure their packages arrive before Christmas.

Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes are available for free at any Post Office.

If you want to save time at the Post Office, you can go online at USPS.com and buy postage and print labels and customs forms using Click-N-Ship. Information on free package pickup is available online.
