New Bill Seeks To Ban Guns In Some Areas
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/NSF) – Delray Beach representative Lori Berman has filed a new bill that would ban hand guns from childcare centers and government buildings.
The bill comes in the wake of 2010's HB 45 which prevented counties and municipalities from enacting gun control laws stricter than state laws.
Berman said that as cities repealed their laws, it left a gaping hole of safety that she believes was unintended by state lawmakers.
The bill would specifically ban the carrying of concealed weapons in most county, city, and school buildings.
Berman is a Democrat in the heavily Republican legislature. A similar bill is expected to be filed in the Florida Senate by Boca Raton Senator Maria Sachs, also a Democrat.
