Police: Mentally Ill Man Stabs Puppy To Death

FORT LAUDERDALE – (CBSMiami.com) – A 19-year-old man who suffers from a mental illness is facing one count of animal cruelty after he allegedly stabbed a puppy numerous times inside his home.

The puppy died as a result of the numerous stabbing wounds allegedly inflicted by Christopher Tyrie Brantley, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's arrest report.

Police say Brantley used a kitchen knife to kill the pup.

Brantley, of Fort Lauderdale, appeared before a Broward bond court judge Monday and told the judge that he had previously been treated at the Henderson Mental Health Facility for about six days.

Police say the puppy was stabbed on December 18th inside his home on the 600 block of Southwest 28th Terrace. The judge reset his case and did not immediately set a bond.
