DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A Davie man was rushed to the hospital after police say he was accidentally shot by his girlfriend.

According to police, 40-year old Kristi Ellis was cleaning a handgun in her home in the 4200 block of SW 63rd Avenue on Sunday morning when it went off. The bullet struck her boyfriend, 40-year old Michael Allih, in the abdomen.

Allih was taken to Memorial Regional where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet.

Police said the injury did not appear life threatening.
