Ft. Lauderdale Airport Expects Half A Million Passengers Over Holiday

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - More than half a million travelers are expected to fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport during the holiday travel period.

The Broward County Aviation Department anticipates an average of 77,000 passengers a day during the seven-day period beginning Dec. 22nd.

Airport officials say the busiest travel days will be Thursday, December 22, and Friday, December 23. Based on airline schedules, officials at the airport anticipate a slight decrease in passenger travel over the same period last year.

Travelers planning to park at the airport have several options. First, there are the airport's garages in front of the terminals which cost $15 a day. Airport Economy Parking, which is located west of the airport, has more than 4,000 additional parking spaces at $7.50 a day. Shuttle buses run every 15 minutes to bring passengers to and from the terminals. To access Airport Economy Parking, take Griffin Road just west of I-95 to Ravenswood, turn right, and follow the signs. Some of the parking areas will fill-up earlier than others, and travelers should allow extra time to be directed to available parking.

All passengers are urged to arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.

Remember the Transportation Security Administration's 3-1-1 liquid rules for carry-on's = 3 ounce bottle or less (by volume); 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. Call your airline or check their websites for the latest information on flight status.
