Panthers Bringing Rats Back Tuesday Night

SUNRISE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – It's been around 15 years since the rats last rained down on the ice for the Florida Panthers. But, with the team in first place, the rats will once again be for sale, at least for one night.

According to the Panthers, the team will sell white, gray, and black rubber rats at the team's Pantherland store Tuesday night.

The story of the rats dates back to when the Panthers were a tenant at the old Miami Arena.

Supposedly, a player flipped a rat against the wall and after that, the team went on a long winning streak and reached the Stanley Cup Finals.

After the incident became public, Panthers fans would throw rubber rats on the ice as soon as the team would score on the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The league technically banned the throwing of rats on the ice, but fans may revive the tradition if the team can continue to play as well as it has up to this point in the 2011-2012 season.
