Dwyane Wade Excited About New Heat Players

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Heat completed their first weekend of practice Sunday and met with the media Monday afternoon. Heat superstar Dwyane Wade said the summer was tough, but he attacked it in a unique way.

"I did a lot of plates, yoga, I did some boxing," Wade said. "I just did a lot of different things to keep myself active, strong. Now, we're back to basketball and we have to get back into NBA shape."

Wade said that while fans are getting excited about the player movement around the league, it's also confusing for the teams and players.

"It's a lot going on around the league," Wade said. "Obviously with us, we had a big summer last summer."

Part of what's going on in the league is the trades and potential trades of some of the best players in the league. All of it has Wade and his fellow players questioning what exactly the lockout did in the grand scheme of things.

"Why did the lockout happen? I don't see it helping right now," Wade said.

As for his team, Wade is thrilled at the addition of Shane Battier and is pleasantly surprised at the prospect rookie point guard Norris Cole brings to the table.

"Adding a guy like Shane was huge for us," Wade said. "Norris Cole is a pretty good player. He really knows the game and is a smart player."

Wade said that he's not going to worry about whether the Heat hatred rears its ugly head again this year.

"We can't care about the perception," Wade said.

LeBron James' role was discussed and Wade couldn't pass up a chance to rib his teammate and friend a little bit.

"I'll be fine with my game. I know about what I'm here to do," Wade jokingly said. "(LeBron's) job is to pass a little more to me."

Wade indicated that while the lockout in football may have helped some veteran teams that already had their core together, it's not necessarily the same in basketball saying, "no one has an advantage over anyone else," about the post-lockout league.

"We're just trying to do our best and our coaching staff is doing their best to make sure we're in shape to play the type of basketball we want to play," Wade said.
