MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Just in time for the Holidays, the Florida Lotto is approaching the highest payout of the year heading into Saturday;s drawing. The estimated top prize is $39 million, just a million shy of the largest jackpot of the year.
That $40 million payoff was made in August, paid to two winners. In May, a Hollywood man was the sole winner of a $35 million jackpot.
In an unusual move, the Florida jackpot is just a million short of this Saturday’s PowerBall jackpot, usually much larger because the PowerBall game is played across a number of states.
The last Florida Lotto jackpot winner was in September. If there is no winner Saturday, the jackpot would grow to the largest of the year .
