Wynwood Walls' Street Art Shines During Art Basel

MIAMI (CBS4) – Jessica Goldman is proud to show off the latest additions to the project which she and her father came up with three years ago.

Wynwood Walls, which has grown by leaps and bounds, will debut seven new, cutting edge, museum quality urban murals when Art Basel Miami Beach kicks off this week.

"We wanted to create an art town center, the first outdoor gallery style museum," said Goldman.

More than 40 artists from all over the world are showcasing their work at the Wynwood project.
From the best graffiti art in the country to colorful portraits and landscapes, the Wynood Walls project encompasses a number of styles. Daze Ellis, an artist from New York, spent the better part of this week putting the finishing touches on his piece that is part of the 'Garage Door' exhibit.

"I am so proud to be a part of this exhibit," said Ellis who creates murals. "Tony Goldman is a real visionary."

Changing a long neglected neighborhood and filling it with art does 'magical' things. Businesses pop up, people visit and eat among the art thanks to two local restaurants owned by the Goldman family.

"We're expecting 10,000 people a day here during Art Basel week. Now there are 70 galleries here in Wynwood. There were none when we first got here. The progress is amazing, this is a wonderful cultural arts center here in Miami," Goldman said.

Wynwood Walls will open a temporary store during Art Basel week where many of the artists works will be for sale, including limited edition t-shirts. The opening party is at 9 pm., November 29th. It's free and open to the public.
