No Charges Filed Against Man Who Shot Dog In Davie

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A two-year old Doberman pinscher, described by his owner as being lovable and friendly, was shot and killed on Thanksgiving Day by a man on bicycle.

Dan Abou said he had allowed Scooby to roam free in his yard when he heard a gunshot and dog's whimper, according to the Sun-Senitnel. Abou ran out front and found a fatally wounded Scooby who died in his arms. Abou said it was not unusual for owners to let their dogs run free in their Whispering Pines cul-de-sac, and it's never been a problem in the past.

Davie police said the man who shot Scooby said he feared for his life. The man, who had a permit for the gun, had not been charged as of Friday. Police are still investigating the shooting.

In Broward County, an ordinance requires that all dogs outdoors must be under physical control of person using a leash or kept behind a fence.

Abou said Scooby, who he had adopted in July, was in training to be a therapy dog at senior centers.
