Outdoor Ice Skating Rink Opens On Las Olas
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami.com) Winter in South Florida is here and a new experience in Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas makes the season merrier.
The featured activity? Ice skating at Skate Las Olas, a1,800-square-foot artificial ice rink staged on the lawn of the Riverside Hotel. It's the closest thing to skating at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, except for the tropical palm trees and 80 degree weather, of course.
For $6 a half-hour, skaters fast and slow can glide across the man-made pond of heavy duty plastic polymer. Rent your skates and listen to festive tunes right in Fort Lauderdale.
The "ice" rink is like icing on the cake for delivering the sights, sounds and spirit of the holidays to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Randi Karmin, executive director of Las Olas Boulevard Association, told CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
The outdoor rink belongs to former Ice Capades skaters Jennifer and Jason Kane, the Herald reported.
