Royal Caribbean To Feature iPads In Staterooms

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Guests aboard Royal Caribbean's Splendour of the Seas will soon be able to access daily activities, shore excursions, order room service or watch movies in their room with the touch of a finger.

Beginning in mid-February 2012, every stateroom will come with an iPad.

"Based on consumer research, we added the iPads to greatly enhance guest communication, interactivity and to continue to offer industry leading technology that helps enhance the guest experience," said spokeswoman Lisa Bauer.

While The Splendour may be the first ship to get this high tech enhancement, Royal Caribbean plans to add iPads in all of the Vision-class ships over the next two years.

The iPads, which will feature English and Portuguese, will allow guests to access all of their information not only from the comfort of their staterooms, but through throughout the ship thanks to new WiFi being installed.

In addition to the iPads, when The Splendour emerges from dry dock on Nov. 25, 2011, it will also have new stateroom amenities such as flat screen televisions, new bathrooms and completely remodeled interiors.

Royal Caribbean International, which is based at the Port of Miami, is a global cruise brand with 22 innovative ships, calling on more than 270 destinations in 72 countries across six continents. The line also offers unique cruise tour land packages in Alaska, Canada, Dubai, Europe, and Australia and New Zealand.
