3 Dead After Car Ends Up In Pompano Beach Lake

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4)- Authorities are investigating after three men died when the car they were traveling in ended up in a lake in Pompano Beach.

According to Sandra King with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue Department, the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday. The car was traveling southbound on Andrews Avenue when it went into the lake. The men were identified as 19-year-old Gregory Holloway, Tommy Neloms, 24, and 29-year-old Victor Durham.

"What we do know is that the vehicle was westbound on Sample Road approaching the Andrews Avenue extension," Mike Jachles of BSO said. "For some reason, still under investigation, as that vehicle attempted to turn they lost control. The vehicle struck a guard rail, went over that guard rail and into the lake."

The vehicle was submerged in about 15 to 20 feet of water, Jachles said.

"The victims were traveling with a group of other vehicles, several other vehicles," Jachles said. "They were coming from Club 525 in Deerfield Beach."

Three PBFRD divers went into the lake to pull the men out of the car, which was at the bottom of the lake. Rescuers tried to resuscitate the men and transported them to North Broward Medical Center. But the men were pronounced dead.

Jannie Morris, Holloway's mother, said she puts her trust in God.

"Don't gamble your life away," she said. "Get yourself right with Christ so that you will know that you have a resting place… I know my son is gone, but I still rejoice in God."

Morris added that her son was a good child with many friends.

"He was a loving young man," she said. "He's a sweet young man. He died at the age of 19. Those 19 years were... loving 19 years. He was a premature baby, but I loved him and God loved him more."

Police do not know what cause the accident and which one of the men were driving the car at the time of the incident.
