Florida Man Executed For 1989 Triple Murder

STARKE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – A Florida man convicted of murdering an Ohio mother and her two daughters before tossing them in Tampa Bay, has been executed.

Oba Chandler, 65, was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 4:25 p.m. at the state prison in Starke.

Governor Rick Scott signed the death warrant in October.

Chandler was convicted of murdering 36-year-old Joan Rodgers, her 14-year-old daughter Christe and 17-year-old daughter Michelle while they were returning to Willshire, Ohio, from a trip to Disney World in 1989. He stripped them from the waist down, bound and gagged them and weighted their bodies before dumping them.

It's the second execution under Gov. Scott since taking office. The first was for Manuel Valle, who was convicted for the 1978 murder of Coral Gables Police officer Louis Pena during a traffic stop.

Valle was executed on September 28th.
