It's Official: New Logo, Uniforms For The New Miami Marlins
LITTLE HAVANA (CBSMiami.com)- It's official: Miami has a new baseball team with a new home, but there are a lot of familiar faces. Say goodbye to the Florida Marlins, and say hello to the Miami Marlins.
The team celebrated the big change at their new stadium in Little Havana Friday night, showing off the nearly-complete roofed ballpark to 800 celebs and VIPs invited for a first-hand look.. The Marlins also unveiled their new logo, new team colors and four new uniforms.
Notably, there's a player fashion show of the uniforms and a presentation from team owner, Jeffrey Loria.
Current and former managers and players were there, including Ozzie Guillen, Jack McKeon, Emilio Bonifacio, John Buck, Omar Infante, Josh Johnson, Logan Morrison, Ricky Nolasco, Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez and Gaby Sanchez.
Marlins merchandise went on sale at the event, and was available to the general public for the first time at 11 p.m. Saturday, the new hats and jerseys with the new logo will go on sale at three locations in Miami-Dade, including Dolphin Mall.
On November 2, the team changed the names of the streets surrounding their new ballpark. The new stadium is surrounded by Orange Bowl Way, Bobby Maduro Drive, Marlins Way and Felo Ramirez Drive.
In October, CBSMiami.com reported that the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Facebook page had a video of what is purported to be the sculpture that will be in the outfield of the new Marlins stadium. The sculpture will light up if a Marlins player hits a home run.
The animation shows a sculpture that features palm trees, a massive light show, with marlins swirling around the statute. It's unlike anything baseball, or any sports outside of professional wrestling, has ever seen before.
The new stadium is expected to officially open on April 4, 2012.
