Car Bursts Into Flames After Hit By Tri-Rail Train

OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) - Three people were forced to flee their car just before it was hit by a Tri-rail train Sunday night in Oakland Park. The car burst into flames, but everyone got out safely. 10 people aboard the train were hurt.

Ft. Lauderdale Public Information Officer Matt Little said firefighters were called to the CSX Tracks at Powerline Road and Commercial Boulevard at about 7:30 Sunday.

Little said the vehicle had become stuck on the tracks., and as a Tri-Rail train approached, three people in the vehicle got out safely.

The train struck the vehicle, which burst into flames. Little said firefighters found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, but quickly put the fire out.

10 people on the train were hurt, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue, and were taken to Holy Cross Hospital and Broward General Medical Center.

One person had significant injuries, while most were just slightly hurt.

Nobody in the vehicle was hurt.
