POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) — A South Florida drug suspect was shot and wounded during an encounter with BSO deputies outside a Pompano Beach fast food restaurant Thursday night.

The shooting took place 7:53 pm in the parking lot to the rear of the Taco Bell at 357 West Atlantic Boulevard.

Members of the BSO Selective Enforcement Team (SET) had arranged to buy cocaine from the suspect.

When he showed up to complete the drug deal, deputies began to move in from all directions. The suspect then shifted his car into gear and accelerated toward a SET deputy. The deputy fired his gun at the suspect and hit him in the arm.

The suspect was rushed to North Broward Medical Center where he was treated for his non-life threatening injury. Charges against the suspect are pending completion of the investigation.

Nobody else was hurt, including the deputy.
