Miami Man Turns Tables On Gas Station Robbers

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The son of a Miami convenience store clerk turned the tables on a trio of alleged robbers and helped police put two of them behind bars.

Last Thursday around 10 p.m., police said 20-year old Christopher Yem and a second man walked to the Shell gas station store in the 2000 block of SW 3rd Avenue. When Yem walked up to the counter to pay for a piece of candy, his alleged accomplice pulled out a black semi-automatic pistol, pointed it at the two cashiers and then both men reportedly demanded the money in the cash register.

The cashiers hand over the money. As the men were leaving the store, they ran into the son of one of the cashiers who had come to pick her up.

Police said Yem and the other man fired shots at the son but didn't manage to hit him. The cashier's son then pulled a gun and shot at the two men as they attempted to get into a waiting vehicle driven by 20-year old Ali Martinez, according to police.

Yem's accomplice and Martinez were both hit by flying lead.

According to police, Yem and Martinez took off in the vehicle and the third robber took off on foot. Yen and Martinez were later arrested at Jackson Memorial Hospital where they had gone for treatment.

Police are still looking for the third man described as a black male, approximately 20-years-old, 6 ft., 160 lbs., last seen wearing gray clothing and was possibly shot. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Police Department's Robbery Unit at (305) 603-6370 or Miami Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 (TIPS).
