Attempted Carjacking Ends With Violent Crash Into Homestead Church

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) - A bungled carjacking in Homestead came to a smashing end Thursday afternoon.

Homestead Police say Michael Teslar left his pickup truck engine running while he ran inside of a store.

While the truck was left unattended, a man reportedly jumped into the driver's seat and attempted to steal it. Watching the theft unfold, Teslar ran out from the store and jumped into the bed of the truck.

Authorities say Teslar broke the back window and began to struggled with the suspect, identified as Jean Paul, 19, which caused the suspect the lose control.

The truck careened into the Full Gospel Church at  2062 NE 8th Street and came to a stop.

Police say Jean fled from the scene but was later apprehended by police.

No one was injured in the accident.
