Police Seek Thief Who Snatched Necklace From Ft. Lauderdale Jogger

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Detectives are looking for a man who ripped an invaluable necklace off the neck of a woman jogging on a Fort Lauderdale street.

Shannon Stappenbacher was jogging along North Ocean Boulevard when she was approached by a man at the intersection of Northwest 30th Street.

Stappenbacher says as she passed the man, he reached out and grabbed her necklace.

She says the reason it is so upsetting is the necklace is a family heirl0om, passed down from her mother.

"The necklace has been in my family a long time. My mom was adopted and it was one of the things her real parents had left her, and they've now passed," said Stappenbacher. "So its more of a sentimental value, of course, to us."

After stealing the necklace, the robber fled on foot. Stappenbacher was unable to call police because she was jogging without her cell phone, allowing the thief to get away.

The suspect has been described as a white male, approximately 5' 10" in height and weighs about 160 pounds.  The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt with white writing, black gym shorts, and black and silver Nike Air Jordan "Retro 13" model sneakers. The suspect has a tattoo of a 1940's style nude pin-up girl on his right forearm.

Detectives also believe the suspect currently or recently attended Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach.
