Facebook Building Near Arctic Circle

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – If you're like the CBS4 newsroom, Facebook has become a critical part of your life.

The increased demand has forced the company to find a new location for a farm of servers; on the edge of the Arctic Circle.

According to the Associated Press, Facebook will build a server farm in the northern Swedish city of Lulea.

By placing the servers in such a cold environment, it will help keep the servers cool.

The data center will primarily help Facebook users outside of the United States. Facebook has around 800 million users worldwide.

The new data farm will consist of three 300,000 square foot server buildings and be operational by 2014.

Facebook currently stores data in California, Virginia, and Oregon. It's also building a new data center in North Carolina.
