FIU Tops Trojans, 23-20

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Florida International came into Tuesday night's game looking to even their conference record and move to 5-3 on the season, but the Troy Trojans wouldn't go quietly into the night.

FIU needed a 22-yard field goal from Jack Griffin to edge Troy 23-20 in overtime Tuesday. The Panthers were led by running back Kedrick Rhodes who ran for 172 yards on 30 carries in the game.

Panthers quarterback Wesley Carrol chipped in by going 20-37 for 286 yards and two touchdowns to help FIU reach their fifth win on the season.

The victory was only FIU's second win against Troy all-time.

Going strictly by the numbers, FIU should have blown Troy off the field. The Panthers outgained the Trojans 522-299 and held the ball for 36:39. But FIU's self-inflicted problems of penalties and three turnovers almost cost them the game.
