Early Voters Head To Polls Saturday In M-D County

MIAMI (CBSMiami)– Election day across several cities in South Florida is less than two weeks away, and a new Mayor for four cities will be announced on November 1st, but early voters are casting their votes beginning Saturday.

Early voting began Saturday for Hialeah and the City of Miami while Homestead and Miami Beach voters will head to the polls beginning next week.

Specifically, Homestead and Miami Beach's general elections are set for November 1, along with Hialeah primary and special elections and Miami general municipal election. Notably, Hialeah's general election and Miami Beach's run-off election is set for November 15.

On Wednesday, four candidates vying to become Hialeah's next mayor faced off during a debate at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

Political newcomer George Castro, former state Senator Rudy Garcia, Mayor Carlos Hernandez and former Mayor Raul Martinez answered questions about their plans to bring business to Hialeah, and their views on gambling, and government transparency among other topics.

Running for mayor in Homestead is Steven Bateman and Steve Losner. Running for the election seats, including seat 2 is Jon Burgess and Ramiro 'Miro' Orta. Seat 3: Judy Waldman. Seat 6: Alejandro Andrickson and Patricia Fairclough-McCormick.

In Miami Beach, Steve Berke, Matti Herrera Bower, Dave Crystal and Laura Rivero Levey are in the mayoral race.

For the City of Miami, qualified commission candidates for District 1 include Wilfredo 'Willy' Gort and Shawn Selleck. District 2 candidates include Williams Alfred Armbrister Sr., Kate Callahan, Donna Milo, Michelle Melin Niemeyer and Marc Sarnoff. District 4's unopposed candidate is Francis Suarez.

Early voting sites in Hialeah and Miami will be open from Saturday, Oct. 22 through Saturday, Oct.29th.

Early voting for Miami Beach begins on Monday, Oct. 24 to Sunday, Oct. 30, while early voting in Homestead is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27 to Saturday, Oct. 29.

Early voting for Hialeah's general election begins on Thursday, November 10 to the 12th. Miami Beach's early voting for the run-off election is schedule from Saturday, November 12 and the 13th.
