Winner Of Oprah Beetle Gets Her Car

MIAMI (CBS4) – You may remember an episode last year of the Oprah Winfrey Show where the 'Queen of Talk' yelled "You get a car, and you get a car, and you get a car" at the audience as she gave everyone for that show a new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.

On Thursday morning, Eileen Segal anxiously awaited for her brand new car to arrive.

"I am so excited, I can't wait to see my little red bug and drive off into the sunset," Segal told CBS4's Vanessa Borge.

Thursday's delivery was made possible by a letter written almost a year ago by Segal's good friend Merle Kaplan who wrote to the Oprah Winfrey Show in the hope of getting tickets for a special show.

"You had to write an essay about your charities and what you do," Segal said.

Segal does a lot including being 'President Elect' of the Florida Parent Teacher Association.

"I do it because it's a passion and I believe in public education," said Segal.

Segal said every member of Oprah's audience that day was someone like her, someone who enjoys giving back to their community. Little did she know that Winfrey was about to reward them for their giving spirits.

"And Oprah said 'What if you won the 2012 Volkswagen newly designed bug' and everyone just started screaming," Segal recalled.

Segal said while she truly appreciates the car, because she really needed one, she didn't keep everything she was given on the show that day.

"I used some of my gifts that Oprah gave me to auction and I wrote Oprah's 'Favorite Things' so we could raise money for scholarships, so children can go to college in Florida," said Segal.

So after years of giving back, Segal finally gets to enjoy the fruits of her giving heart with an apple red Oprah Beetle.
