Obama In Orlando, Senate Votes On Jobs Plan

ORLANDO (CBSMiami) – As the Senate holds its first test vote on President Barack Obama's $447 billion jobs plan, the Commander In Chief will be in Orlando for a pair of fundraisers.

Before coming to Florida, Mr. Obama will make a stop in Pittsburgh where he will hold a meeting of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness and address a gathering a union training center.

The President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness will present Mr. Obama with a 50 page report with recommendations to boost employment. Some of those recommendations are expected to include liberalizing immigration, creating a student loan repayment plan based on income, instituting a more business friendly tax system and improving the nation's network of roads and bridges.

Mr. Obama will then fly to Orlando and attend fundraisers in downtown Orlando and in the home of attorney John Morgan.

Tuesday's vote in the Senate will be a procedural one which will decide if the American Jobs Act will move forward. The plan includes payroll tax cuts for workers and businesses, spending for infrastructure projects, unemployment assistance and and help to local governments to avoid layoffs of teachers, firefighters and police officers. Republicans oppose its spending components and its tax surcharge on millionaires. Democrats need 60 votes to beat a Republican filibuster.

Republicans say the proposal would be another expensive failure in stimulus spending.
