Forbes: Tallahassee One Of Most Dangerous Cities In U.S.

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami.com) – When you think of dangerous cities in Florida, Miami or Orlando may top your list. But according to Forbes, Tallahassee is the most dangerous city in the Sunshine State.

Not only that, Tallahassee is in the top 10 for most dangerous cities in the United States. Tallahassee ranks eighth in the country on Forbes' list of most dangerous U.S. cities.

Forbes used the FBI's uniform crime report to compile the report. Specifically, Forbes looked at four categories from the FBI's report including: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Topping the list of most dangerous cities was Detroit, followed by: Memphis, Tenn.; Springfield, Ill.; Flint, Mich.; Anchorage, AK.; Lubbock, TX.; Stockton, Calif.; and Tallahassee.

Not surprisingly, Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell disagrees. He said big-city crime numbers make Tallahassee look like "pipsqueaks."

Campbell said the city's ranking was due to an improper use of crime statistics because it wasn't just for the city, but also the surrounding metropolitan area.
