Dade's Animal Services Hosts Pet Adoption Party

MIAMI (CBS4) – Miami-Dade's Animal Services agency celebrated its 6th anniversary on Sunday with a Pet Adoption Party.

The party featured dozens of abandoned dogs and cats at the shelter, located at 7410 NW 74th Street, in need of loving home. Everyone who adopted a new 'member of the family' received a complimentary family portrait with their new furry friend.

"The turnout from the community today has been very sweet, very nice.  We've had a lot of volunteers here and a lot of residents come to adopt our animals," said Melissa Sorokin, a volunteer coordinator at the shelter.

The shelter also welcomed those who dropped off donations of dog and/or cat toys.

For those who know someone who is thinking about getting a new pet and want to help, the shelter has Adoption Gift Certificates available so they can go and pick out the best match for their lifestyle.

Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, Animal Services accepts all dogs and cats. Each year, they take in nearly 36,000 pets which have been turned in, abandoned or found wandering the streets.

The shelter holds pet adoptions parties four times a year.
