MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) – One man is dead after his Jeep  jumped a curb and plunged into a canal.

The accident happened either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning near 127th Avenue and NW 25th Street. A security guard spotted the SUV Sunday morning and called police.

“A security guard was conduction his area check and found that a vehicle had crashed through the barricade and fallen into the canal.  Emergency units responded and at that time they found that one Latin male was in the vehicle,” said Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Lt. Rosanna Cordero-Stutz.

Police identified the man as 45-year old Wilfredo Morales.  Investigators will be looking at whether he was driving too fast around the curve when he lost control and ended up in the canal.
