Late Gov. To Lie In State At Florida's Old Capitol

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) – Former Florida Gov. Claude Kirk will lie in state Friday at the Old Capitol in Tallahassee.

A processional led by the Florida Highway Patrol will carry Kirk's body to the Capitol just after noon and he will lie in state from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The Old Capitol will be open to the public. The body will also be taken to the Governor's Mansion on Friday before returning to Palm Beach County where Kirk lived in recent years.

A funeral service is set for Monday at Bethesda-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach. A private graveside service with military honors will also be held at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth.

Kirk was the first Republican governor of Florida in the 20th century upon his election in 1966. He died early Wednesday in his sleep at home. He was 85.
