Walkers, Runners Hit The Pavement For The Hungry

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) - Hundreds of walkers and runners waited at dawn Saturday for the bark of the starter's pistol so they could do their part to raise money to help feed the homeless of Latin America.

The 6th annual 5K walk.run for the poor was held in Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, and featured 500 walkers and 300 runners. The race was the sixth organized by Food for the Poor, which raises funds to feel children and their families.

The runners were divided by gender in 13 age groups, and the top finishers received special recognition.

Food for the Poor claims 96% of fund raised or donated go to help the needy in 17 countries,
