Sex Encounter With Teen Tourist Lands Keys Man In Jail

MARATHON (CBSMiami) - A California woman's discovery of a pregnancy test in her daughter's bedroom led to the arrest Saturday of a Keys man on multiple charges of sexual assault. Police say he had sex with the teen while her family vacationed in the Keys.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Department arrested 26-year-old Justin Ahern shortly after midnight Saturday, and charged him with 5 counts of having sex with a minor.

The girl, whose name was not made public, was just 17 in July when she and her family vacationed at the Tranquility Bay Resort in Marathon. Ahern was working for Turtle Bay Water Sports, a company that supplies resort services to hotels in the Keys.

After the family returned home, and the mother found the pregnancy test, she contacted the Sheriff's department which started an investigation.

Investigators found that at least twice, the teen slipped out of the resort and went to Ahern's home for sex.

When investigators confronted him, they say he admitted the encounters, and said he knew the teen was 17.

Under Florida law, it's illegal for someone over the age of 24 to have sex with someone under 18, even if the teen consents.

Ahern was charged with the 5 felony counts, and ordered held in the Monroe County jail.
