Fins May Lose Cornerback

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Based on the performance of the Miami Dolphins secondary the first two weeks, the last thing the team could afford was to lose their best cover cornerback.

But, that's increasingly looking like the reality as the Fins prepare to face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis sat out his second straight practice Thursday due to the hamstring injury he has after last Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.

If Davis can't go, the replacements haven't done much to make Dolphins fans think the Browns receivers will be well covered.

Backup Nolan Carroll has been beaten repeatedly during the first two games, and nickel cornerback Will Allen was originally cut by the team but re-signed shortly thereafter.

If Davis can't go, and Allen takes over on the outside, then it could be rookie Jimmy Wilson who gets a crack as the Dolphins starting nickel cornerback.

The Fins also signed Nate Jones this week, who was the Fins' starting nickel corner from 2008-2009. He also has a shot at the nickel job if Allen is moved outside.

Elsewhere on the injury report, Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush both practiced fully with the Dolphins after dealing with a groin injury last week. Inside linebacker Karlos Dansby also returned to practice this week in a limited role.

For the Browns, the only notable injury is to wide receiver Mohammed Massaquoi. He has been battling an ankle injury and has only had limited participation in practice. Massaquoi is a starter and if he can't go, Josh Cribbs is listed on the Browns' depth chart as being next in line.

The Browns are 1-1 on the season and are currently three point favorites as the home team.

The Dolphins game can be seen exclusively on CBS4 Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
