Sunny Isles Boy Hit While On Bike Released From Hospital

SUNNY ISLES (CBS4)- The six–year-old boy who was run over while riding his bike in Sunny Isles was released from the hospital Saturday, approximately one week after the incident.

Jacob Shaked is back home from Joe DiMaggio’s Childrens Hospital. Shaked will be in a wheelchair for a few weeks until he’s strong enough to walk on his own.

Shaked was riding his bike 10 houses down the street from him home when a car slammed into him, crushing his bike and injuring him.

According to police, the person responsible for the incident drove away.

The Sunny Isles neighborhood where this happened is a gated community, with a low speed limit to protect kids just like Jacob. However, some complain the drivers ignore those speed limits, putting kids at risk.

His father, Yariv Shaked, said, “That’s the hardest part about it is that if they would have hit my son and stopped I was able to forgive and I said accidents happen,” he said, “But the person hit my son and took off him laying on the street.”
Investigators are hoping someone may have seen something and will come forward, or even the driver might have a change of heart and step up to explain what happen.
