2 Arrested After Miami Officer Struck In Head

LITTLE HAVANA (CBS4)- Two people are in custody after a Miami police officer was hit in the head while responding to a report Thursday.

According to the Miami Police Department, the police officer responded to the area of 751 NW 1 Street in Little Havana in reference to an armed man. When the officer arrived he was struck in the back of his head with an unknown object, according to police.

The officer, whose name was not identified, was taken to a Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One person was in custody, and police were looking for the second person who took off and barricaded himself in a home. He was in custody just after 11 a.m.

There is no information on what prompted the attack. It's not known if the man had a gun, CBS4's Peter D'Oench reported.

The officer is in stable condition, according to the department.

The person who assaulted the officer faces charges, including assault on a police officer.
