Cooper City Children Nearly Drown In Backyard Pool

COOPER CITY (CBS4) – Two Cooper City children remain in critical condition after they fell into a backyard pool and nearly drowned.

Shortly before 10:00 a.m. Monday, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units were sent to a home at 10721 London St. after 2-year-old Kane Walter and 1-year-old Rhyle Rodriguez both fell into the family pool.

When fire rescue arrived, neither child reportedly had a pulse.  Paramedics were able to revive them.

Chopper4 over the scene found several paramedics working on a child who was lying on a gurney inside a screened pool enclosure.  After several minutes, the gurney was wheeled outside to a waiting ambulance; a paramedic performing CPR chest compressions on the child.  Both children were taken to Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines where they were listed in critical condition.  They were then transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood.

BSO homicide detectives are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the double near-drowning. The grandmother of one of the victims, Kane Walter, was babysitting both children at the time. It is unknown how long the children were underwater.
