Nate Strengthens, Speeds Up As It Heads Toward Mexico
MIAMI (CBS4) – Tropical Storm Nate picked up speed and strength Saturday as it started to move more quickly toward the Mexican coast, prompting the Mexican government to issue hurricane warnings from Tuxpan to Veracruz. People were warned to complete final preparations for Nate's arrival.
At 5 p.m., the center of the system was located 120 miles ENE of Veracruz, Mexico with maximum sustained winds at 65 mph, an increase since the previous advisory..
The National Hurricane Center said the storm is moving faster, west at about 6 mph. Its center is expected to be over the coast Sunday and could be nearly a Cat 1 hurricane.
Nate could produce total rain accumulations of 4 to 6 inches with isolated maximum amount of 12 inches over the Mexican states of Campeche and Tabasco.
