Pedestrian Hit By Car On Dark Liberty City Street

MIAMI (CBS4) - A female pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a car on as dimly lit Liberty City street Wednesday night.

Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Iggy Carroll said the woman was crossing Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 59th Street when she was hit by a Toyota Corolla. The force was so great, Carroll said, that the women went through the driver's windshield.

The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The stretch of roadway is extremely dark because of a recent rash of copper wire thefts in the area, as discovered by CBS4's Natalia Zea.

"We had to call additional trucks to light up the area so we could see,"said Carroll.

Officials believe the lack of lighting and heavy rain hindered the vision of the driver.

Neither the driver of the Toyota or the victim have been identified.
