MIAMI (CBS4) – A female pedestrian is in critical condition after being struck by a car on as dimly lit Liberty City street Wednesday night.

Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Iggy Carroll said the woman was crossing Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 59th Street when she was hit by a Toyota Corolla. The force was so great, Carroll said, that the women went through the driver’s windshield.

The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The stretch of roadway is extremely dark because of a recent rash of copper wire thefts in the area, as discovered by CBS4′s Natalia Zea.

“We had to call additional trucks to light up the area so we could see,”said Carroll.

Officials believe the lack of lighting and heavy rain hindered the vision of the driver.

Neither the driver of the Toyota or the victim have been identified.

If you would drive up seventh avenue towards 62nd str and make a left heading towards 17th avenue and 62nd str you will notice the same problems on 22nd avenue actually in all the blighted areas..Now do you think our public officials whom we placed in office care about us? You do the math we have to come together on issues like this……I GUESS PUBLIC SAFETY IS NOT IMPORTANT

I was gonna say before I even opened this page “The lights would probably work a lot better if they still had the wiring”.

441 has been dimly lit and unlit for the past 5 years….copper thieves problem bring it to the “Current’ news level but it has been a problem long before metal thieves came along.
