Fans Celebrate Upcoming Season Opener At Miami Dolphins Rally

MIAMI (CBS4) - The Dolphins season opener is next week, but many excited Dolfans couldn't wait to show their love for the hometown team.

The Dolphins held a pep rally Tuesday night in Tropical Park.

From the young and anxious to the more seasoned fans, meeting their longtime idols, the event had something for everyone.

"We were taking a picture with Nat Moore, showing the tradition to my son, basically trying to get him to understand the '72 undefeated," Efrain Grillo told CBS4's Natalia Zea.

The Fins fans braved the fury of rain that came through to meet players, enjoy the gourmet food trucks and of course, cheer on their team.

Even though Janet Avila sometimes feels like football is her husband's mistress she's excited for the aqua and orange season opener.

"It seems like the day would never be here, like this day would never come," said Avila.

She's not alone. The waiting has even been painful for some fans like Luis Godoy.

"It's been treacherous for me because I really want a win," said Godoy. "I really want a win for Miami."

So does Dolphins Defensive End Ryan Baker. He says the team is getting ready for the showdown against the Patriots.

"Working hard, going out there, watching film. Knowing our opponents- that's huge," Baker told Zea.

Baker enjoys signing autographs and meeting the fans first-hand. Because he knows he needs them during crunch time.

"They're a lot of energy for us when we need that extra boost, the thousands and thousands of people are screaming for you because they love you and they love the game, that'll give you the extra energy to go forward."
