One Dead In Early Morning Turnpike Crash

MIRAMAR  (CBS4) - A Lauderhill man was killed in a single car crash on Florida's Turnpike just after midnight Monday morning.

Delano Harvey, 23, was pronounced dead on the scene after the 1999 Honda Civic he was riding in careened off of the northbound lanes of the Turnpike Extension just east of University Drive, and struck a tree.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the car was being driven by Jakeson Stewart, 23, of Fort Lauderdale. Stewart was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is unknown.

It is not known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. According to the incident report, a blood alcohol test is pending.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
