NSU Using iPads To Treat Injuries
DAVIE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – The Apple iPad has been revolutionizing personal computing for the past two years. Now, researchers at Nova Southeastern University are using the handheld device to help treat spinal cord injuries.
The Occupational Therapy Department used a grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation to buy 20 iPads to treat disabled patients.
Researchers think that the lighter-weight iPad and it's touch screen will give patients better access to the technological world including the Internet, social media, and GPS. Plus, NSU researchers say it will help spinal cord victims keep their mind stimulated by easily reading books and newspapers.
The program has so far given out eight iPads to patients suffering spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy, and an amputee.
