Search Of Glades For Missing Man Enters 3rd Day

MIAMI (CBS4) – For a third straight day, Everglades National Park rangers are searching for a Texas man who has not been seen in about a week.

The search for 23-year old Jacob Olivier began August 30th when rangers realized his truck had been parked at Pine Glades Lake since August 24th and had not moved.

Park rangers contacted Olivier's family in Texas who said he didn't know anyone in South Florida. Since they couldn't provide any information on how long Olivier planned to stay in the park, the rangers launched the search as a precaution.

Rangers searched the immediate area on the ground and a Miami-Dade police helicopter assisted by searching from the air. Afternoon thunderstorms, however, cut the search short. A more intensive search was conducted the following day using K9s, trackers and helicopters but still no sign of Olivier was found. On Thursday another search was conducted.

Park officials said Olivier has not been declared missing by his family and at this point it is difficult to say whether he is still in the park.

Anyone who may have seen Olivier while visiting the park in the past week or have other information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact park officials at (305) 242-7740.
