Broward Jurors Will Soon Have To "Park & Ride"

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Broward residents called to jury duty will soon have to park off site and take a trolley to the courthouse.

On Tuesday, the Broward County Commission reversed an earlier decision and sided with Clerk of Courts Howard Forman that court employees needed to park in the garage and not temporary jurors, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

The parking shortage begins in about six weeks when the existing courthouse parking garage will be torn down as construction begins on a new $328 million courthouse facility on SE 6th Street. Construction is expected to take two to three years.

Until completion approximately 200 jurors on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays will have to use the park-and-ride to get to the courthouse.

The county is scouting out additional parking nearby, but for the immediate future the trolleys will be rolling.
